Jeppe Aakjær's writing Jeppe Aakjær (1866-1930) wrote poetry that encompassed everything from social propaganda to regional poetry in local dialects and pure poetry extolling nature. He also wrote several epic local tales.
Niels Hansen Jacobsen's friendship with Jeppe Aakjær
Jeppe Aakjær was a participant in many important events in Niels Hansen Jacobsen's life of both a personal and a professional nature. He wrote a wedding song when Niels Hansen Jacobsen married Kaja Jørgensen in 1908, and he delivered the speech at the unveiling of the "Troll Fountain" in 1923.
The two also exchanged gifts of their own work. Niels Hansen Jacobsen gave his friend pieces of ceramics and always received copies of Aakjær's new books, which he and his wife Kaja read and frequently commented on; they stand on the shelves of Niels Hansen Jacobsen's private rooms at the museum. Jeppe Aakjær himself received a plaster copy of the portrait bust and was evidently very pleased with it. It can be seen today at his home in two variants. Aakjær also had a portrait relief of Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson made by Søren Kongstrand, a ceramist from Esbjerg.
