Søren Alkærsig (1868-1943)

Søren Alkærsig was a folk high school teacher and the principal of the Kerteminde Folk High School for a number of years. He was also a writer and a historian, specializing in regional studies. He lived in Vejen from 1920, and from 1939 in the nearby village of Brørup. He published several books about life in the area.

Søren Alkærsig compiled a guide to Vejen Art Museum in 1935 together with Niels Hansen Jacobsen. It contained an article about the sculptor and a review of the museum's collection.

An undated letter from Alkærsig to Niels Hansen Jacobsen.

Dear Hansen Jacobsens!

You see, to honor art
we've gone and done our part
as we were able.

We've killed a cock to eat
and hope that you will meet
us at our table.

If we see you here tonight
to have a little bite
well then, God bless!

When we are done,
then no more talk of art - to fun!
And we'll play chess.
