Plaster. Size 63 x 63,5 x 7 cm. Inv. no. 191. Gift of Peder Nyman, c. 1965.
"Elverhøj" The ballad tells of a youth who lies down to sleep on an elf hill. Three lovely elf women appear who tempt him with all manner of wonderful things to get him to stay with them. Fortunately, the cock crows at dawn and saves the youth from perdition.
How the reliefs were used The reliefs hung as decorations in the dining room at the Grønvang farm, home of Johannes Lauridsen, director of the National Bank, and his wife Maren. The motifs are also found on a series of carefully framed little ceramic reliefs - a couple hang on the innermost of Niels Hansen Jacobsen's private rooms at the museum. |
