The landscape by Harald Slott-Møller is shrouded in darkness. In the foreground is a field and dark, looming trees. In the background moonlight on water and the silhouette of a boat.

The couple Agnes and Harald Slott-Møller were very fond of the Kolding Fiord area. The motif appears frequently in the later works by Harald Slott-Møller, often combined with female figures. He had the opportunity to get to know the area while he was working in the small town of Sønder Stenderup, painting portraits of the sculptress Anne Marie Carl Nielsen (wife of the famous composer) and her sister Lucie Brodersen. At the Vejen Art Museum hangs a very severe portrait of a woman, identified by Teresa Nielsen as Lucie in 1998.

Young woman in black dress (probably Lucie Brodersen)
